This was our first visit to this camp site, first impressions on our arrival was mixed.

The entrance to the camp site was via a private uneven, un-tarmac road, then you arrive at the sites main entrance where there are new security barrier’s and a old green portacabin for a reception / shop.

Entering the reception I was meet by a member of staff and a cat on the counter which was not good as it’s also the camp shop counter also everything look just a bit disorganized, The shop part of the reception was just as messy. After booking in and paying £10 deposit on the electronic entry key they gave me a map of the site showing our pitch number Our pitch was in the adults only section where there are 2 lakes, both can be fished. Would be nice to have every pitch numbered ours wasn’t but when we had worked out which was our pitch it was not a grass pitch as requested on booking. So after a quick visit back to the reception and this was sorted out with a bit of a huff!

I under stand that the current owners only  took over the camp site in January 2009 and are in the process of improving the camp site over the next few years. There big problem is the loos and shower blocks, these are also portacabins or though they are being refurbish on the inside not all have been done on our visit. It’s understood that the owners had applied for planning permission for new toilet / shower blocks but was refused by the National Parks Authority. The NPA considered the existing portacabins more than acceptable, they should try and use them which I wouldn’t

Now (yes there is a but coming) It’s lovely to see ducks and geese wondering around doing what ducks and geese do, but the amount of geese crap was just too much it was everywhere and I mean everywhere. You could not walk on the grass without putting your foot in it. Don’t get me wrong it’s not the whole site it’s only around the lake and pitches behind the reception, (picture to the left is behind the reception the picture below is what it is) the owners do need to address this problem and arrange for it to cleared every day as it a health hazard.

The latest news on their web site regarding the loos and shower block is that are being replace starting this autumn. this will bring a big improvement to the camp site

If you are looking for a quite camp site with very basic amenities and in the New Forest then Green Hill Farm maybe one to consider but, until the showers etc. are rebuilt you will have to use your shower in your caravan as I did, if your in a tent.... good luck!
Verdict. Would we stay at this site again? the answer is no. Well not in it’s present form quite a lot of changes will have to be made. A big clean up of the geese mess, complete re-build of the toilet and shower blocks also the hard standings for caravans require a lot of work. Price being charging at the present is very questionable? we paid £17 per night for 2 adults, car, caravan with hookup, which considering the condition of this site is at present? just a well over priced.
